Beautifully layered aromas include those of essence of red berries, rose petal and a touch of crushed fennel. There is fine mid-palate density to the delicious and energetic medium weight flavors that display focused power on the overly austere and mildly rustic if sneaky long finish. This is really quite good though a wine that will definitely need at least a few years of bottle aging first.

Domaine Jean Fournier dates back to the reign of Louis 13th in the early 17th century, making it one of the oldest properties in Marsannay. But Sylvain has a little bit of his domaine (about 15%) planted to Pinot Noir and this wine is proof that he knows his way around the Pinot Noir grape as well. Beautifully fragrant with notes of cherry, blackberry, and mocha, this wine practically leaps from the glass. Fresh, delicate, and soft on the palate, there are elements of cherry and raspberry notes that mingle with a kind of forest floor woodsy character. From a south-facing single-vineyard in the commune of Vaulicheres, east of Chablis. Two thirds of the fruit is barrel-fermented and aged, the remaining fruit is in tank. There’s a hint of green here, but in a pleasant way, like a bit of salad with your steak to freshen. Ripe, round, fleshy with peach and kiwi, whilst maintaining a lovely mineral focus. Canadian born but Chablis grown Patrick Piuze has come through with his slew of new releases and they are simply stunning. The Bourgogne Tonnerre is no exception. The fruit comes from Les Boutots, located in the village of Vaulicheres, just east of the village of Chablis. Highly expressive, with layers of aromatic exotic citrus and orchard fruits. Les Boutots is refreshing, vibrantly acidic, and glides effortlessly on the palate.
