Avignonesi Da-Di / Toscana Bianco - 750ml, 2014

This wine is made from the finest Sangiovese grapes from a single vineyard located in the area known as “Il Corno”. French oak, coconut, eucalyptus and scorched earth aromas form the nose. Showing the heat of the vintage, the densely concentrated palate offers prune, roasted coffee bean and tobacco, alongside tightly knit, close-grained tannins. The warmth of evident alcohol dominates the finish.

Il Marroneto Brunello / Madonna delle Grazie

Intense ruby red color and with a great olfactory concentra- tion, thanks to the presence of a ripe red fruit that leads to notes of jam, spices, vanilla and licorice. In the mouth the wine is characterized by a dense and elegant texture, also supported by the important acidity of the Sangiovese, the tannins are absolutely sweet and the finish is long and of great persistence. Pairs well with cold cuts and meat rich in flavour, cheeses with a strong and aromatic taste, in particular, Pecorino Toscano and Parmigiano.

Fattoria Poggio di Sotto 2018 / Brunello di Montalcino

The organic and biodynamic Brunello di Montalcino Corte Pavone offers a silky presentation of dark fruit flavors that are intermingled with light shades of spice, earth and crushed flower. The wine offers lively fruit and shows good overall balance, with mid-weight texture ceding to bright acidity.

A masterful expression of Tuscan craftsmanship, L’Aspetto Toscana IGT 2018 blends 50% Sangiovese and 50% Canaiolo grapes cultivated in clay soils rich with ancient marine shells. The Sangiovese originates from old vines, lending depth and character to this beautifully structured wine. In the glass, it shows an intense ruby hue and releases captivating aromas of anise, blueberry, raspberry, and tobacco. The palate is layered and refined, opening with juicy red fruits followed by notes of spicy raspberry and balsamic undertones that add complexity and intrigue.

The Chianti Classico Riserva is powerful and dense, with all of the natural richness of the year very much on display. Macerated cherry, leather, spice and tobacco fill out the wine's frame nicely. There is lovely depth to this wine, but I also get the impression it will drink well relatively early for a Castell'in Villa wine.

The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is flat-out stunning, wafting up from the glass with a bouquet that blends minty herbs and a dusting of cocoa with sweet spice and blackberries. This sweeps across the palate with textures of pure silk, ushering in waves of polished red fruits and orange as rosy inner florals form toward the close. While tannic and classically dry, the 2019 maintains a lovely inner freshness, leaving a pleasantly bitter tinge and salted licorice notes to taper off slowly. This is a fabulous showing from Sesta di Sopra and an excellent representation of Castelnuovo dell'Abate terroir.

Sometimes compared to the delicate wines of France’s Burgundy region, Tuscany’s Brunello is a wine that’s remarkably good at presenting the nuances and variations that come from vintage variation and vineyard sites. Working with fruit from primarily southwestern-facing sites that showcase the varied soils of the region, Campogiovanni’s Brunello offers up aromas of well-ripened wild berries, blackberry preserves, tobacco leaf, and tanned leather. Long on the palate, this wine seems deceptively light at first taste, but in short order, an expansive, generous palate that displays a rich mouthfeel emerges. Bold and brooding, this shows the vintage beautifully with a complex and dark-fruited palate that lasts.

Wow. The ripe yet fresh aromas are so alluring and compelling, showing plums, cedar, rose petals and hints of leather. Full-bodied yet framed and tensioned with fantastic length and intensity. Polished tannins are powerful but reserved, showing great presence and character. This is a monumental wine in many senses of the word. One for the cellar.

A bright red color, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino was bottled in March of 2024 and will be released in March of 2025. The aromas are layered and complex with notes of red berries, cranberries, rosemary, orange peel, and black licorice that are constantly evolving in the glass as it opens. Medium-bodied and structured, but also elegant with a weightless feel, it has a long and savory finish. It feels as though it's going to gain in intensity with more time in bottle.

Made only from the finest Sangiovese grapes carefully selected from the estate Chianti Classico vineyards, this Reserva represents the perfect blend of the traditional and the modern. It spends some 24 months in oak, with about 20% in small barriques, and one year in the bottle. The front label bears Titian’s famous portrait of a medieval knight in armor. Cherry, plum, leather, iron and sweet spice flavors mingle in this dense, broad red, which stays focused courtesy of its vibrant acidity, with a wide girth of tannins on the fresh, complex finish.

Very clear aromas of blackberries, blueberries, dark chocolate and some orange peel follow through to a medium body with a solid core of fruit and a polished and refined texture. The saline-tinged acidity guides the core of tart red and blue fruits. Graphite notes mix with savory herbs and spice as this finishes with admirable length and a gentle coating of fine tannins.

The first look at Giodo's 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino is a showstopper and one of the highlights of the vintage. It pours a jeweled ruby color and is ripe and giving on the nose, with ripe, pure aromas of preserved raspberries, fresh herbs, sweet mossy earth, and a pristine floral profile. Medium-bodied, it fills and expands through the palate, with ripe tannins, broad shoulders, and a clean, mineral finish with a darker profile. It's going to improve as it leans into its more tertiary notes of black truffle and tea leaf and gets darker on the finish. This may be a wine that competes with 2019 for complexity and depth, and it will be worth cellaring to find out.

This is a historic Tuscan wine, with the first vintage produced in 1968. The Vigorello is a blend of the Tuscan indigenous grape Pugnitello, with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. It offers depth, intensity and a profound level of dark fruit with blackberry, plum, spice, earth and campfire ash. Robust and softly textured, this is a study in understated power and complexity.

Monteraponi Trebbiano / Colli della Toscana Centrale

Vibrant aromas of ripe cherry, redcurrant and rich dark fruit with notes of liquorice and cocoa. The palate is structured and complex with plum and bramble fruit and toasty oak characters. Juicy acidity and firm tannins on the long and polished finish. Pair with pasta with wild boar ragù (or failing that roast pork)! Good match with duck a l'orange too.
