While Saumur may be just a mere 30 minutes drive from Chinon, geologically speaking at least, they couldn’t be much more different. Saumur is known for a soft, chalky limestone that makes up the bulk of the bedrock here and which imparts a chiseled minerality to wines. Like Chinon, this is 100% Cabernet Franc. Here however, this wine offers a layered bouquet of wild bramble, tangy red currant, and cracked white pepper, underscored by subtle herbal spice. On the palate, it is silky and generous, revealing notes of fresh black raspberry, dried plum, and a whisper of forest floor. The tannins are finely knit, lending structure without weight, and the finish is persistent, tapering off with hints of savoury spice and mineral tension.
