The renowned Tuscan winery, Monte Bernardi is owned and run by winemaker Mike Schmeltzer. The Monte Bernardi estate dates back to 1085, but the first wines from the property were produced in 1992. The Schmelzer family bought the estate in 2003 and began working the land using organic and biodynamic methods and has since certified them. Schmetzler is originally from Italy but spent much of his youth in the U.S., eventually traveling the world to pursue his love of wine. Italian wine is his first love though and it inspired him to make wine with Monte Bernardi. Stylistically, Monte Bernardi’s wines emphasize elegance. A distinct minerality and earthiness run through all their wines, which remain vibrant and acid-driven, even in warmer vintages.
