Pretexto is a portuguese red wine produced with native grapes from different vineyards in Dão’s region. The two sites are Penalva do Castelo from vines at 550-620 meters above sea level, and Vila Nova de Tazem at 480-550 meters of altitude. This combination of grape varietals and high elevation make for a wine that's bursting with bright red fruits, black pepper and herbs, layered with red fruit, blackberry, and leather on the palate. Tannins are very elegant and smooth and it has a long finish.

Nuno Mira do Ó is one of Portugal's foremost viticulturalists and winemakers, mostly making wines in the historic Dão region, as well as Alentejo, Bucelas, Bairrada and Monção in the Minho. This is peppery with red cherries and some underbrush. A tight, medium- to full-bodied red with lots going on. Juicy but not overwhelmingly so, with supple tannins and lovely tension. A blend of Tinta Pinheira, Afrocheiro, Jaen, Baga and Touriga Nacional.
