The town of Montemarano in Irpinia possesses very good elevation at 550 meters, and loam-clay soils that are ideal for Aglianico. With this elevation and long growing season, the wine tends to be a bit more linear with elegant red berry and black fruit, not quite as intense in terms of alcohol and tannin as other Taurasi wines. That does not mean the wine lacks complexity or structure, rather notes of cedar and tobacco along with firm tannin are very prevalent.
