Mucci Imports-Italian Excellence September 19, 2025

Friday September 19th Mucci shows more Italian excellence!! Regular$/Tasting$

2022, Monte Meletto, “Vecchie Tonneaux” Vino Bianco, Piedmont, Italy $45.00/$38.25

This wine comes from pergola trained vines on terraces at about 300 meters. Consider that this is not quite the alps but just about feels like it! The wine ferments in steel and ages in 500L barrels for 9 months, undergoing full malo-lactic fermentation which lends the wine a suppleness on the palate. This is full bodied with great minerality, plenty of citrus peel, wild herbs, and crushed stones. It’s rich but yet fresh and long on the palate.

2022, Iacopo Paolucci, “Iacopone” Grechetto di Todi, Umbria, Italy $29.00/$24.65

Paolucci's 'Iacopone' Bianco is crafted entirely from Grechetto, a grape capable of producing wines that balance power and freshness, and a variety that one may more commonly associate with the nearby Orvieto region. Named both for the name of its maker, but moreover a tribute to Jacopone di Todi, a local friar and author considered to be one of Italy's most important poets of the Middle Ages, these nods to Umbrian history are a common thread from Paolucci, a vigneron who has always looked to the past to inform his methods. Deeply golden and sensually textural, the Iacapone delivers yellow orchard fruit, sweeter green herbs, as well as a subtle streak of nutty inflection.

2022, Glassier, “Vernatsch” Schiava, Alto-Adige, Italy $32.00/$27.20 From the incredible Stefan Vaya who is a 9th generation farmer in Egna just below Bolzano. This comes from 100 year old vines in which Stefan has a half dozen rows. Old vine Schiava is all but disappearing in the area, sadly. Very simple winemaking and always a product of the vintage. This is mountain wine through and through. It’s light and fresh but oh so complex. It’s truly an autumnal wine that is earthy herbal and full of bright red fruits.

2021, Edoardo Patrone, “PSB” Vino Rosso, Piedmont, Italy $26.00/$22.10

A true field blend from heroic vineyards in the western Italian alps of Piedmont, right on the border with Switzerland. This comes from old vines upwards of 100 years old tended by many farmers who have stewarded these vineyards for decades. It’s a blend of Nebbiolo, Merlot and 12 different local grapes. The Merlot in particular, really shows through. It’s vibrant, a touch nervy and full of waves of red fruits and spices.

2021, Iacopo Paolucci, "Principale Nelle Vigne” Sagrantino, Umbria, Italy $50.00/$42.50

A wine that does 30% carbonic maceration this is inky Sangrantino as you’d expect with lip smacking bright fruit from this unique winemaking. This comes from vines at 500 meters with undertones of volcanic soils. It’s aged in stainless steel with a small percentage in the barrel. There are plenty of black cherries and plum on the palate as one would expect from Sagrantino. It’s savory and rich and these wines always finish with hints of tobacco and spice.
