Beer & Wine Tasting At The Spirited Gourmet!

Pilsners, Round 2, DRINK!
Fri, Jun 13, 2025
5:00 PM - 7:00 PM EDT
It's time to cure those summer time blues, load up on fried clams, and hit the beach! This is round two of pilsner tastings, with a fun addition of a classic German pilsner adjacent drink. Presuming Mother Nature cooperates, we have some hot weather on the way but even if we get rained out, tonight's selection of beers will help ease the sadness, and pair well with beach bumming in Reveah or at Constitution beach. So grab a 4 pack and catch some waves. Surf's up!

Duchovni (Czech-style pilsner, Medusa Brewing,Hudson, MA, 5.2%)

Lively carbonation and a dry finish make Duchovni the perfect addition to any situation in need of refreshment! Clean and refreshing without leaving you feeling heavy, this X-Files approved beer is always a good choice, year round.

Sun Love Pils (Dry-Hopped Pilsner, Berkshire Brewing, South Deer Field, MA, 5.0%)

This Pilsner begins with a base of German pilsner malt, dry hopping with Alora and Columbus hops. Tropical notes with hints of peach and yuzu fruit, and touch of resinous pine

and a subtle floral aroma bring everything together in a flower power package.

Grapefruit Radler (Stiegl, Salzburg, Austria, 2.5%)

Radlers have a long history of being refreshing, low-alcohol drinks. Apocrypha has it that Franz Kugler, a Munich innkeeper, had a sudden influx of cyclists on a hot summer day in 1922. Having to supplement his inadequate beer supply, he mixed his lager with with some lemonade, and the 50/50 concoction was an instant hit. Stiegl mixes their Goldbrau lager with all natural sparkling grapefruit soda to bring you a delightful, fizzy, low alcohol refresher that will get you out on the bike trails.

Bright and drinkable, with hints of grilled nectarine baptized by a salty beach sea breeze. In the glass, you'll find fresh aromas of citrus, white flower, yellow orchard fruit, and nectarine. The palate shines and shows off notes of lemon zest, mango, sage, and mineral salinity alongside vibrant acidity.

2024, Domaine de la Cabotte, “Colline” Cotes du Rhone Blanc, Rhone, France

This blend of Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Viognier and Roussanne really overdelivers for the price. The Plumet family champions biodiversity at the estate, farming their vineyard plots biodynamically. There is a lovely verve and energy to this wine. Textured and creamy but also lively and fresh – so enjoyable! The nose shows subtle hints of stone fruit while still remaining extremely fresh and explosive. Fresh cut hay and citrus lead into a wine with excellent acidity and good mineral notes. Long and clean, this vibrant wine will keep you coming back.

2023, Stirm Wine Co, “Joaquinite” Pinot Noir, Cienega Valley, California
The wine has a wonderful balance of floral tones, pure, silky fruit, and savory earth tones. Expressive right from the bottle with dried rose petal, hibiscus, black raspberry, seared strawberry with balsamic reduction, dusty earth, foraged mushrooms, and leaf litter. Very supple and elegant on the palate, with a vibrant and complex finish.

2022, Montecorneo, “Travento” Umbria Rosso, Umbria Italy
Montecorneo is a small family-run company located in Sant’Andrea d’Agliano, in the province of Perugia. Travento is 100% Merlot fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks. This is not your monster, jammy, plump, over extracted Merlot. All of the hallmarks of Merlot you want are there, think blackberry, unsweetened cocoa, violets, and freshly turned earth, but with a lifted kind of freshness that’ll have you wondering why you haven’t been drinking Merlot more often…
