The Erggelet brothers split time between Germany and nearby Sudbury, MA as children (their family now lives in Belmont!), and as adults have started one of the coolest California wineries we've come across in a long time. The wines are all estate-bottle fruit - the brothers not only grow vines but operate a fully functioning organic vegetable farm - based in Contra Costa county at the base of Mt. Diablo. The vines are in sandy soils and are extremely old; pre-phylloxera plantings still exist and everything else are clones from those original plantings the Spanish settlers originally brought over with them in the late 1800's. Lucky for us, the brothers happen to be fantastic winemakers as well, and this is one of the best Carignans we've had in a long time. Bright, fresh, long, complete, and completely delicious.
