This 100% Merlot grown on the well-drained clay soils of the hills surrounding the winery just outside of Bologna. Merlot has been grown here for more than a century (probably closer to two centuries, actually) and is very well suited to the climate of the region. Powerful and bold, this offers a wonderful expression of one of the world’s greatest grape varietals. Loaded with dark fruits and an earthy kind of spiciness that also offers suggestions of unsweetened cocoa, this wine finishes with a firm but silky tannic backbone that offers a wonderfully long finish. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better wine pairing to go with a traditional Tagliatelle alla Bolognese.
