There really is a Mas, a provençal farmhouse, in Cruzy, the heart of Saint-Chinian and home since 2004 to Violaine and Xavier de Franssu (and their children too now). Nestled into the garrigue of a wooded hillside, their front door looks out to the south-east and their 14 ha of vines; mostly old-vine Cinsault and Carignan growing in the brick-red sandstone seams of the clay-limestone soils. It’s easy to see why the young couple, fresh oenology degrees in hand, decided to become vignerons here. Of course a pretty landscape isn’t enough for great wine. It takes work, talent and often a little luck but over the years the work (organic conversion, building a winery and then a barrel “chai”), the magnificent vineyards and the de Franssu’s growing experience have resulted in some of our most asked for wines. Not flashy or flattering, but pure, fresh, and with”typicity” that’s not predictable; these wines gracefully please again and again.
Red sandstone soils and a healthy dose of Cinsault have year after year made this one of our most taught, mineral rosés. Primarily direct press (80%) of Cinsault (50%), Syrah (20%), Grenache (15%), Carignan (15%). Ecocert certified organic.
