Wines of the Week - 260717
Mokoroa Txakoli Rosado - 750ml, 2025
Mokoroa is a rosé txakoli made from 50% Hondarrabi zuri and 50% Hondarrabi beltza. After the grapes are harvested, the blend of two Hondarrabi grapes is macerated with their skins before being pressed for 15 hours and then fermented in tanks. This rosé wine is quite light, young and fresh, but it has the tannins provided by the grape skins. It still has the identity of txakoli, the acidity and the good citric touch, but the hondarrabi beltza gives it a touch of red fruits, such as strawberry or cherry, and also a characteristic slight bitter touch.

The goal was to create an Alsace wine that is all-around usable for food, but which can also be enjoyed on its own. Daniel Crochet Sancerre Blanc - 750ml, 2023
This is 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Crochet’s style is almost Chablisienne in his ability to produce ethereal wines, with levity and depth. The grapes are grown in very stony soils of calcareous, clay, and limestone composition. Crochet’s whites show green zest and golden grapefruit, all well integrated and balanced on a sturdy beam of minerally, fresh, acidity. This is an aperitif wine or something to celebrate with when you’re not feeling bubbles.

La Spinetta Il Rose di Casanova - 750ml, 2025
Inspired by Provencal Rosés, the Rivetti family decided to produce one rosé from their portfolio. The fascinating characteristics of Sangiovese and Prugnolo Gentile, permitted them to create a wine that shows great character, an intense aroma, and which is very pleasant to drink. It has a floral and fruity bouquet with hints of citrus and Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it is wonderfully fresh and delicate with satisfying minerality and an all-embracing acidity. Epic rose from an epic producer.

Pat Green Pinot Noir / Dollar Bills Only - 750ml, 2024
Originally produced in 2020 when fear of smoke taint from rampant wildfires made Patty Green’s regular wine production untenable, Dollar Bills Only, was a way to use that fruit in a way that would allow them to make use of the fruit. Instead of normal production, a much lighter, easier drinking style of Pinot was made that fell somewhere between a light red and a dark rose. This is an incredible value wine from this iconic Willamette producer. Silky and elegantly layered, with rose petal, raspberry and orange peel accents that build richness on the long, lingering finish. The label is a photo of the old jukebox at Lumpy's Tavern in Dundee, lovingly referred to as Dollar Bills Only.
